The Dream PS5 Launch Line-up

The Dream PS5 Launch Line-up

As we enter into the new year, the first thing on my mind is that it is the year of new generation consoles. These machines will be packed with loads of new features, optimized systems and most importantly amazing games. In this week’s article I break down four possible PS5 titles that I would love to see at launch this fall. Let the speculation begin!

4) Dreams: Media Molecule

With its upcoming release on February 14th on PS4, it may seem odd for Dreams to be included on this list. However based on my time playing Dreams at preview events, there is an extremely deep level of creation that will keep gamers busy for a long time. I believe Sony will want to have the game on their current generation of consoles to allow for the lifespan of Dreams to continue long after the life of the PS4. The sheer variety of levels created in Dreams would offer an excellent launch title for younger gamers and families alike.

3) New Title: Ready At Dawn

After finishing the Order 1886 in 2015, I remember thinking despite the repetitive shooting there was a lot to love about this game. I loved the dark and mysterious setting that was beautifully depicted in the game. Additionally I enjoyed the narrative surrounding Sir Galahad and the fight against half-breed monsters. Given an opportunity to make another console title, I believe Ready At Dawn could make a truly amazing narrative based game for PS5. Whether their title would a new IP or a sequel to 1886 is up to them, but the lessons learned from 1886 will hopefully have shown them how to make a graphically stunning narrative based game with unique gameplay to complete the package.

2) Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Insomniac Games

As a lifelong comic nerd, Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 is arguably the most fun I've ever had playing a video game. Swinging through the streets of New York and fighting criminals was everything I wanted and more. With the power of next generation hardware, imagine being able to move the city and enter/exit mission will no loading. Additionally, I would love to see the continuation of the story established in the previous game. With Marvel’s Spider-Man selling over 13 million copies since its launch in September of 2018, its sequel would be sure to be a great system seller upon swinging onto PS5 early in the system’s life-cycle.

1) Horizon Zero Dawn 2: Guerilla Games Studio

With its strong female protagonist, unique setting, compelling gameplay and deep rpg system, Horizon Zero Dawn had something for everyone. As a fan of the Killzone series, it was inspiring to see Guerilla Games branch out into a completely new genre and just simply knock it out of the park. Having sold over 10 million copies since its 2017 launch, the title is considered a commercial and critical success and begs for a sequel to continue the franchise. The fully realized world of Horizon has so many unique stories that I would love to see explored in a sequel. Having such a highly anticipated first party title at launch would be a game charger for Sony, especially considering that Xbox has been open about the fact that their first party exclusives won’t launch during the first year of Xbox Series X.
