Dreams Review in Progress

As a huge fan of Media Molecule and LittleBigPlanet, I have been following the development of Dreams since its announcement. It is a difficult game to fully understand until you play it and then it becomes clear how special Dreams truly is. I am in the process of writing an in-depth review of Dream that will publish next Sunday March 1st, however I wanted to write about my early impressions as I start to explore the endlessly varied world of Dreams. In short, based on my short time with the game, if you are considering picking up Dreams on PS4, please do so! This game is so unique and Media Molecule deserves all the praise they have received.

I started my journey with Dreams by exploring the different user-created levels and was immediately blown away by the level of detail in many of the levels that I played. In addition the sheer variety of game genres being utilized in Dreams is unlike any experience that I have seen before. During my first hour playing the game, I ran around a city as the Incredible Hulk collecting orbs, I explored Pelican Town in a Stardew Valley sim, I played a realistic racer that could be part of the next Burnout game, and so much more. Players are utilizing all of the tools provided by Media Molecule to create breath-taking levels with realistic lighting, unique art-styles, whimsical soundtracks and so much more.

With the release of Dreams, Media Molecule has created more than a game. They have created a platform for designers, artists, musicians and more to find their voice within game creation. I believe Dreams will be a game that I can check in on for years to come to see what new creations have been made and how Media Molecule’s amazing community has changed the way we view the process of traditional game development. I have yet to delve into the creation tools and single-player story “Art’s Dream” for myself, which is the main reason I am waiting to publish my full review until I can play more. Look for my full review of Dreams at 9am on Sunday March 1st and until then stay tuned to LukeWarmGames for some positivity within the games industry.
